One of the favorite things to do is to take personality tests. I can never say no to a personality test. They are so much fun to me. Naturally, when I saw my Facebook friends taking a 16 personalities personality test I was super excited to take it. Everyone ended up with not just the standard INJF or ENJF, they also got assigned a cool name. I hadn’t seen a personality test like this so I decided to take it.
It didn’t take long to answer the questions, and the questions were also slightly different than most personality tests. Instead of being yes or no it was a range. In the end, I ended up getting what they called “The Advocate” or INFJ-A. Apparently, it is a rare personality type. I’m sure every personality type they show is “rare”, it’s probably just there to make you feel special about yourself. Let me tell you it worked. It did make me feel special even though I know they probably say that to every personality type.
According to 16 Personalities, “Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.”. As soon as I read that, I was like “Oh, that’s me and who I want to be all in one statement!”. I felt like it accurately described who I was and my mindset. However, before we get into the fun speculations about my personality type. Here is what makes up this type.
There are 5 traits that make up your personality type. Mind, this trait determines how a person might interact with their environment. Energy, this trait shows where a person directs their mental energy. Nature, this trait determines how a person makes decisions and copes with emotions. Tactics, this trait reflects a persons approach to work, planning, and decision-making. Finally, there is Identity, this trait underpins all others, showing how confident a person is in their abilities and decisions. I’ve heard of at least 4 of the traits when deciding what personality someone has, I had never heard of Identity. With this knowledge, here are my traits.
For the mind trait, it wasn’t shocking at all. It told me I was 61% introverted, I honestly thought it would be higher. I guess with age that part of my personality is changing slightly. 16 Personalities say, “Introverted individuals prefer solitary activities and get exhausted by social interaction. They tend to be quite sensitive to external stimulation. (E.g. sound, sight or smell) in general.” All of the things pretty accurately describe me. I love hanging out with certain people, but even though I wanted to hang out, I feel drained afterward. I need proper time to recuperate after a big social outing. That’s just who I am as a person and how I have always been. Lately, I haven’t needed much recuperation time, so I feel like that side of me is evolving.
The next trait in Energy. My energy is 81% intuitive. According to 16 personalities that mean, I’m very imaginative, open-minded and curious. I focus on novelty over stability and focus on hidden meanings and future possibilities. I feel like this is a very accurate description of me. Though, I was surprised that it wasn’t a little higher. I love finding hidden meanings in things and I love thinking about future possibilities. It’s such a fun thing.
After Energy, comes the Nature trait. I was 53% feeling, which means I am sensitive and emotionally expressive. I’m more emphatic and less competitive. I focus on social harmony. The 53% makes sense to me because I am not overly sensitive or emotionally expressive. I suffer from what is called resting bitch face, and it just permeates throughout my life. I don’t feel comfortable expressing my feeling around people. That being said, the other parts of nature make sense to me. I am the least competitive person you will ever meet if there is a competition I’m paying more attention to having fun then actually winning.
The following trait is Tactics. My tactic result was 71% Judging. While this sounds like I’m an extremely judgmental person. That isn’t what this percentage means. According to the description, having a high judging trait means that I am decisive, thorough and highly organized. It also means I value clarity, predictability, and closure, preferring structure and planning to spontaneity. This also describes me perfectly. I hate when something doesn’t happen as planned, or something pops up without plans. It makes me crazy. This trait for sure
Last but not least is Identity. My identity result was 85% Assertive. Which, without even reading what that means on 16 personalities I agree with it. The description is that assertive individuals are self-assured, even-tempered and resistant to stress. They refuse to worry too much and do not push themselves too hard when it comes to achieving goals. This is very much who I am. I will say I am not resistant to stress, instead, I ignore that feeling until it builds up and I’m super stressed out. Hey, I need to work on my coping skills, but who doesn’t.
And with that, that’s me in a nutshell! 16 Personalities was a great way to get insight into my personality. I hope it gives you an idea of the type of person I am. I like 16 personalities because not only do you get a breakdown of your traits, but they also allow you to explore your type. My type of “Advocate”, and reading through all their material on the website about my type made me feel confident in myself. Once you take their test, they have 8 sections you can explore: Introduction, Strengths & weaknesses, Romantic Relationships, Friendships, Parenthood, Career Paths, Workplace Habits, and a conclusion section. All of these sections had greater details about my personality trait and I enjoyed reading them.
