My Japan Itinerary

My Japan Trip is less than a month away and I am so excited. I have some major things I want to see/do, along with a list of food I really want to try. I talked about the food I want to try in a previous post, My Japan Bucket List. Food in Tokyo is supposed to be some of the best food in the world, I want to make sure to try everything that I can. I’ve decided to make a loose Itinerary, just kind of a guide on what I want to do that day.

November 1st

This is our traveling day. We have two flights, one from here to Atlanta, and then from Atlanta to Tokyo. Our flight from Atlanta to Tokyo is a 14-hour flight!!!! I’ve flown many times from here to England, which is a 7 – 8-hour flight. Now I get to double that time in one sitting. I’m going to keep a journal of how I feel during my flight. Not only will it be an interesting read but it’ll keep me entertained. November 1st is strictly a traveling day, I’ll be losing a day on my way over to Tokyo

November 2nd

Our flight to Tokyo will be arriving in the afternoon. Once we land we’ll have to go through customs and all that fun stuff. After that, we need to find the pickup location for our pocket-wifi, along with a JR Rail office so we can turn in our temporary passes for our real ones. I’m sure all of this will take 3-4 hours, then we get to navigate the Japanese rail station and arrive at our Air Bnb! We will either be incredibly tired or super awake, either way, we will be on the hunt for some food. The apartment we are staying at is close to a lot of things. There is a Kura Sushi about 10 minutes away, we might eat there and if we do we have a chance at winning a toy! Once we eat, we’ll stop by a 7-11 to get things for breakfast the next day. Then it’s time to relax and enjoy being in Japan!

November 3rd

I was lucky enough to be able to get my hands on some Studio Ghibli museum tickets, they go on sale 3 months before the month you want them. I set an alarm and reminded myself to go through a verified website to purchase them. I was able to get the tickets for the first time slot that I wanted. A day later, the ticket vouchers showed up on my doorstep.

Sometime in the morning we will be navigating the train system again and going about an hour away from our apartment to Kichijoji. Kichijoji is a very cool area of Tokyo, it was rated as one of the best neighborhoods to live in. I’m excited to check it out. We’ll be going to the Studio Ghibli Museum first, then we are going to explore Kichijoji! There is a famous cutlet place named Sauto cutlets that I would love to visit. Also near the Kichijoji train station, there is a second-hand store called Harajuku Chicago, they sell clothes and kimonos. I’m hoping to find myself an affordable Kimono there. We’ll also probably just explore the area. This will be our first full day in Tokyo and it is full of excitement, but we will probably head back to the apartment and rest afterward.

November 4th

We are going to explore Akihabara! We have a train station about 10 minutes away from the apartment, so we’ll have easy access to different parts of Tokyo. We will also have a pocket wifi, hopefully, that’ll help us from getting lost so often. I have accepted that we are going to get lost, and it’ll be part of the fun of exploring Tokyo.

Akihabara is a very famous part of Tokyo. It’s an area filled with anime, manga, electronic shops, and other nerdy subjects. I’m super excited to go and see all the nerdy stuff that I love. There are only 2 main places that I want to make sure we go to, one is super potato and the other is a Japanese arcade! Super potato sells video game related things, I hope to find some really cool Japanese games. I also want to play at a Japanese arcade, I’ve seen them on TV ever since I was a kid and I can’t wait to finally be able to go to a real one! Other than those two things, we will probably just explore and take in the sites.

When night time falls, our train line that we will be taking goes by the Tokyo Skytree. So we might stop by there and check it out. I’ve always wanted to see it and I’ve heard the views from the top are breathtaking. There is also a Poke Center at the bottom of the Skytree, my boyfriend really wants to go, so we are going. At the bottom of the Skytree, there are a couple restaurants, one of them is Marion Crepes. I’ve had crepes while in Europe, and I can’t wait to try them in Japan. From what I’ve heard they are just as amazing in Japan as they are in France.

November 5th

This day is a special day! It will be my 24th birthday! I would really enjoy finding a Mt. Fuji tour, but I think we waited too long and most tours are sold out. Instead, we will probably explore Asakusa!

From our Apartment, Asakusa is only about 20 minutes away by train, so it’ll be a short commute. Asakusa is an older part of Tokyo and some streets still have the feel of old Japan. There is a famous gate to a temple located in Asakusa called Kaminarimon, I’ve seen it in so many travel pictures and I cannot wait to see it in person. This gate leads to the famous Sensoji Temple. There is also a famous shopping street that leads up to the gate and the temple called Nakamise. It’s a really long road that has shops on both sides. I’m sure I’ll be able to find nice gifts for my friends and family there. After we check out the temple we will probably spend the rest of the day exploring Asakusa and maybe go to the Skytree if we didn’t the previous day. I said this was going to be a loose itinerary and I meant it. I just want to enjoy my time in Japan, while also making sure to explore different parts.

November 6th

Our day will more than likely start super early, we need to make it to the Tokyo train station to get on our Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto! I’m not sure when our train will leave, but I’ll find that out after we trade in our rail passes on the afternoon we arrive in Japan. Once we get to Kyoto we are going to visit Fushimi Inaritaisha before we check in at our apartment. Fushimi Inaritaisha is another site in Japan that I’ve seen ever since I was a child and cannot wait to finally see it in person. It takes about 2 hours to walk, so we’ll probably be checking into the apartment at dinner time. Luckily for us, our apartment in Kyoto is on the top floor of a Japanese steakhouse.

November 7th

This will be our only full day in Kyoto, but we are going to make the best of it. During the morning we’ll visit the Monkey Park where we can feed and view monkeys. Our afternoon will be spent going to Tenryuji Temple and the bamboo forest. Then finally our evening will be spent exploring the Gion district and enjoying the sites.

November 8th

Depending on when our Shinkansen (Bullet Train) leaves, we are going to try and ride on the Sagano Scenic railway and take in all the sites. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see some beautiful fall foliage. I haven’t seen fall foliage in a very long time, everything is green in Florida. After the train ride, we will be heading back to Tokyo where we will relax and explore the neighborhood where our apartment is.

November 9th

This day will just be a free day, we’ll explore the neighborhood, go shopping and also do laundry. It will be just an average day but in Japan.

November 10th

I’ve lived by the ocean my whole life, and I want to see what a seaside town looks like in Japan. A British seaside town is different from an American seaside town and I image Japan is also unique. We are going to take a day trip to Kamakura! Kamakura is a very historical town filled with amazing temples, shrines and other culturally historic sites. I hope to see the Great Buddha, Hasedera Temple, Hokukuji Temple and of course the beaches! It’ll be the middle of Autumn when we go, so we won’t be able to go in the water, but that is just fine with me. I’m excited to experience a different way of life.

November 11th

I want to visit Tsukiji Market while in Tokyo, they have opened a whole outside market that caters to tourists. This outside market was made so that the actual market could do business without any disturbances. I’d also like to visit Ueno Park, which is a famous park in Tokyo that has many attractions. One of them being the Japanese Natural History Museum. I hope we can explore Ueno Park and spend the day enjoying nature and history.

November 12th

I’m not sure what we’ll be doing on this date, but I’m sure I’ll find out something while we are in Japan. So it will mostly be an open day, maybe my boyfriend will think of something he really wants to do and we’ll do it.

November 13th

This will be the day before we travel back to America. We will probably just relax, do some souvenir shopping, do laundry and just enjoy being in Japan.

November 14th

We need to check out of the apartment at 10, so we will probably head over to the airport for our flight. I’d like to be at least 4 hours early, I’m not sure how hectic the airport is. Even if we go through security super fast, we can still enjoy being at the airport. I’ve heard Narita Airport is amazing and filled with some very good restaurants. Then it’ll be onto our 12-hour flight, somehow we shave 2 hours off of our flight on our way back. Which I’m completely fine with. A fun fact about coming back to America, we’ll be leaving Tokyo at around 5 pm and we’ll be arriving in my town at 5:30 pm on the same day. It makes it seem like it only takes 30 minutes to get back to America.

End of Itinerary

That’s my super loose itinerary with no times or set things to do. Just a guide for myself to remember to go to certain places. I’m so excited for this trip, I hope I can do everything on here and more! Once I get back from Japan I’ll be writing about my trip every day. I’m going to wait until I get back so I can fully enjoy Japan. I will also be posting all the pictures I take here as well. I’m so happy that I get to finally go to Japan!

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a great day!
